Almond blossoms

Almond blossoms in Pera, Portugal, January 2012

If you go to Southern Portugal in January, you’ll have the pleasure to see all almond trees blossoming. There are no leaves on their branches yet, only the beautiful pink flowers which make such an awesome contrast with the blue sky. The temperature varies between 15 and 25 degrees C, perfect for long walks on the beach.
The ocean is still too cold to swim, however there might be daring people who dive in to refresh themselves after running on the sand. Diving in cold water is good for your health… or may be not, I’m not sure.

Fishermen and seagulls on Grande Praia, Pera, Portugal

Fishermen and seagulls on Grande Praia, Pera, Portugal

There will be fishermen with their boats on the beach, going to work every morning, coming back home every evening, with their boats full of fish. Seagulls are everywhere, they believe in God and in the fish that might fall off the fishing nets.
If you live by the beach, you won’t miss exercise.
If you happen to have a dog, take it with you and run together from one end of the beach to the other. You’ll be fit and your dog will be happy. Winter can be very good if you know where to go and live it. Try to spend one winter in Portugal and you’ll understand.

Now let’s see how a photo gallery looks like:

Portugal, mon amour…

Sunset at Praia Grande - Pera, Portugal

Sunset at Praia Grande - Pera, Portugal

The above photo was taken in the natural reserve nearby Praia Grande de Pera. If you visit Algarve, you must go see Praia Grande and the surroundings. The landscape is amazing, there are lots of small animals (rabbits and some little rodents), birds and goat herders with their goats. One could say:

This is the life! No stress, no rush, no cars, nothing but the sea, the dunes and the wildlife.

… and the photographer, of course. How else could I get this amazing sunset photo to put it on my demo site?
